Lexus produces cars and SUVs that are stylish and elegant. Lexus was introduced by Toyota the same year Honda released Infiniti, 1989. Lexus is the luxury division of the Japanese car maker Toyota. Lexus is also the first luxury car maker to produce a luxury hybrid SUV. Slightly over 20 years later Lexus is Japan's leading luxury vehicle supplier in terms of sales. Year after year, Lexus and Toyota have topped J.D. Power and Associates list for best-predicted reliability. Lexus is one of the top luxury brands and is associated with quality and reliability. They are dedicated to comfort and reliability and continues to evolve with changing consumer needs.
The lineup offered today by Lexus has several different options in each the sedan, hybrid and utility categories. Like most other luxury lines, Lexus offers the 6-year/70K miles powertrain warranty on their new vehicles.

Lexus Reliability
There are several reasons to consider a Lexus extended warranty options after Lexus's factory warranty has expired. Here are a few:
- Many people have heard about the brake problems that exist in the Toyota Prius, but few know that the company is also looking into a similar fault on a Lexus model that shares the same breaking system.
- Many Lexus drivers complain of their vehicle randomly accelerating, even when the car is in park
- Some drivers report climate control/radio lighting issues
- There are also cases of power steering issues on several Lexus models
Save for a few major faults, Lexus automobiles are known as some of the longest lasting luxury cars on the planet. The life of a car obviously can obviously be extended by a great deal of care and commitment on behalf of its owner.
A technician really sees every vehicle as package of parts waiting to stop working. This is why most recommend an extended protection for drivers who don't have the time, knowledge or money to spend working on their own car.
Before making any decision, research your specific model and year to ensure reliability. Certain cars are known to be unreliable, making the extended protection decision a no-brainer. Check out the the U.S News and World Report. for current reliability ratings.
Another easy to find out about a product's reliability in the age of the Internet is to check with a community of people that have the same product. People in these groups tend to be very outspoken. In the case of automobiles one such community is Edmunds.com.

Do I Need Lexus Extended Warranty Protection?
Choosing to purchase extended protection for your Lexus is a personal decision. However, here are some things to consider:
- The age and mileage of your Lexus
- The reliability record of your particular Lexus model
- How many miles you drive
- How long you plan to own your Lexus
- Your risk tolerance
- Your financial ability to pay for unexpected repairs
Here are two additional resources to help determine if mechanical breakdown protection is right for you:

- How to determine if a vehicle extended warranty is right for you.
If you decide that extended protection is a good "bet" for you then be sure to purchase it before the original Lexus warranty expires. The sooner you do it the less it will cost you. If the Lexus warranty expires, your options may be limited.
Options for Extended Protection
You have two basic options when it comes to extended protection for your Lexus.
- Genuine Lexus Extended Warranty
- Third Party Mechanical Breakdown Protection
The extended Lexus warranty is only offered by the manufacturer and is usually sold through the dealership. Mechanical Breakdown Protection may be purchased from a third party company. Coverage between the two options is usually comparable.
The main difference between the options is the price and the fact that mechanical breakdown lets you have your service done at any licensed repair facility in the U.S and Canada. The Lexus extended warranty requires that you service your vehicle at the dealership or other Lexus authorized repair facilities. This tends to limit your options.
Third party mechanical breakdown protection plans tend to offer more value and flexibility and can typically be found at a lower price with similar or greater coverage. However, it is important to purchase mechanical breakdown protection from a reputable company.

The Lexus extended warranty is a solid choice but a vehicle service contract from a reputable third party may serve you best if you need the flexibility of choosing your own service location or personal mechanic.
